Once your Administrator has connected Catalogs to your databases or datamarts you are ready to write reports with Impromptu.
One of the first things you need to learn is how to open Impromptu open a Catalog and log in.
There are many ways of doing this. If you open an existing report it will automatically open Impromptu, the report and the catalog it is attached to. However if you want to write a report from scatch you will need to open Impromptu then open a catalog first before you can start writing your new report.
Having opened and logged into a catalog you can then start to create a new report and add fields from the catalog.
The easiest way to filter data is using the filter button method.
Sometimes when you have run your report you will notice that some data is missing and you may only want your report to show data that is not missing. In this case you will need to filter out missing data.
Data comes into your report in the order it is in the database. The quickest way to sort the data into the order you want it is to use the sort button method.
When data items are scattered across the database it is often useful to group that data.
Grouping is essential for when you want to perform summaries on the data
like totals.
There are many summaries that can be performed including sum, count, average
There are many functions available to add value to the data in your database.
When you are satisfied with your report you may want to print it out or you may want to convert it to excel or save it in pdf format to email it to someone who will be able to read it with Acrobat.
We can provide on-site or on-line training see sample below.
