The problem

The client had errors in the database and his department was spending a lot of time checking data manually as well as responding to the errors when they became business critical.

Solution to set up an automatic data checking system.

Each morning the scheduler runs 30 error checking Impromptu reports and dumps the information into a folder of excel spreadsheets.

At the end of each day one user checks the spreadsheets knowing that these are the crucial errors identified as being business critical based on business rules. ie no-one can leave before they start. Odd salaries, duplicate entries, etc

As a new error is identified it is added to the error checking suite within seconds. Persistent errors can be treated at source with training. Within a month errors had fallen from 10% to less than 0.5% of the volume of data.

The benefits of this spread throughout the company as summary reports were more accurate.
